Civic Edu-Space – Wiki for Civic Education:
Blending Digital Innovation and Proven Strategies for Citizen Engagement in Sustainability, Entrepreneurship, and Interdisciplinary Learning, or CIVIKI, is an Erasmus+ small-scale partnership in adult education. It brings together organisations from Portugal, Greece and Austria with one shared aim: to give adult educators practical, tested and freely available methods that help their learners take an active part in society.
At the centre of the project is the CIVIKI Wiki, an open-access, multilingual platform where educators can find methods, use them, rate them and discuss them with colleagues across Europe.

Why CIVIKI
Adult educators are increasingly expected to address active citizenship, sustainability and entrepreneurship in their teaching. In practice, many work without tested, ready-to-use methods, without the digital confidence to adapt them, and without a shared space where they can exchange experience with peers. The materials that exist are often static, available in one language only, and scattered across different sources.
These gaps matter most for learners with fewer opportunities, such as people in rural areas, migrants and the long-term unemployed. For them, civic education can open the way to participation, employment and inclusion.
CIVIKI responds by starting from what educators themselves say they need, and by building a resource that keeps growing through use.
What Objectives we aim to achieve
- Strengthen educators’ competences. Improve adult educators’ digital skills, creativity techniques and critical thinking, so they can foster civic engagement with confidence.
- Provide practical, validated methods. Develop and peer-review at least 26 teaching methods on civic engagement, sustainability and entrepreneurship, each ready for immediate use.
- Create an open, living platform. Build the CIVIKI Wiki as a free, multilingual space for sharing, rating and improving methods.
- Promote inclusion. Make sure the methods work for learners with fewer opportunities, not only in well-resourced settings.
- Connect educators across Europe. Build a lasting community of practice among adult educators, institutions and networks.
Who it is for
- Adult educators, trainers and teachers at local, regional, national and European level. They are the Wiki’s direct users and the participants in our survey, pilot testing, webinars and workshops.
- Adult education providers and NGOs, including adult education centres, vocational schools and organisations working in civic education, sustainability and entrepreneurship.
- Adult learners, especially those with fewer opportunities, who benefit from more inclusive and engaging teaching.
- Policy makers and education authorities, who can draw on the project’s findings and best-practice recommendations.
- European networks and platforms such as EPALE and EAEA, which help carry CIVIKI’s results further.
